I was born and educated in Wales where I graduated with a honours' degree which enabled me to teach English and Drama to students from Year 7 to Year 13 in my present post in Wales.

At present I am Head of the English department and in addition to teaching English and Drama I have also taught expressive arts at GCSE level and Performing Arts at A- Level.

In addition to my duties as a classroom teacher, I established a weekly drama club, in collaboration with the music department, which resulted in very accomplished productions and concerts. I have directed the pupils in a very successful production of the musical ‘Little Shop of Horrors' which was the first production the school had experienced for ten years. The tradition of school performances grew from there and was followed up with a production of ‘Blood Brothers' in 2004 and various other concerts and plays since including a musical version of ‘Cinderella' in 2006 which I wrote myself in conjunction with the music department.

I thoroughly enjoy involving myself in extra curricular activities, and feel they provide pupils the opportunity to celebrate their skills and achievements, and are integral to the whole school ethos.

I am very passionate about Literature and the Theatre and I have always encouraged pupils to experience a wide range of performing arts outside the classroom, regularly arranging theatre trips, as well as drama workshops, allowing pupils to enjoy a variety of performance genres and styles and this is something I hope to be able to continue to do in Chicago.

I feel that my passion for learning and for my subject expertise is a key factor in the motivation and success of the pupils that I have taught. In my opinion, lessons that are interesting, energetic, challenging and varied, enthuse pupils, giving them the opportunity to enjoy learning, and I am extremely excited about continuing to fulfill this aim at the British School of Chicago from August.
