A Celebration of Young Poets
BSC Students to Become Published Poets!
Earlier this fall, a number of our students in Year 3 to Year 10 entered a poetry contest for young poets, organized by Miss Bleathman. Poems found worthy of publication will be published in an anthology titled: A Celebration of Young Poets. Thank you to Mr. Smith, Miss Vaughan and Mr. Symons especially for submitting poems from their class. We will keep you all informed when details of the publication date are released and how you can order a copy of the anthology as soon as we are informed at school. Congratulations to all our students who were selected for this honour. The following is an excerpt from the letter we received informing us of this achievement:
“The fact that you have numerous students accepted makes a strong statement about your school. Less than 50% of the poems submitted were selected to be published. The list of your students that have been accepted to be published represents talent, hard work, and dedication from your teachers and students. In judging thousands of poems each year, our judges have found that the single most important factor in creating a quality poem is the quality of instruction. We have found that schools with excellent language arts programs have a much higher percentage of their students’ poetry accepted. Your school stands out and will be recognized in the anthology as receiving a “Poetic Achievement Award.” This honor is given to the top 10% of the schools who entered the contest. The schools are chosen based on the number and quality of the entries accepted.”
