This is my third year at the British School of Chicago and my sixth year of teaching. Before joining BSC I began my teaching career in a large multi-cultural school in the city of Hull.

Here I worked in both year 3 and year 2, and had curriculum responsibility for religious education. I established and led many successful initiatives at the school to improve English learning. I also worked closely with the University of Hull to help raise the academic aspirations of children in the local area.

Working in a very international school, with over 20 different languages spoken, I had the wonderful opportunity to work with children from all over the world. To celebrate this aspect of the school I made a short film, which showed the children discussing their diverse lives and cultures. The film was shown on the BBC and was used by the local government to promote tolerance and celebrate diversity.

In 2006 I joined BSC as Year 2 teacher. During this time I organized celebrations of major world festivals and this year have taken responsibility for English learning. The start of 2008 marks my third class at our school and the third class to be known as the ‘Smart Sharks’. It has been a wonderful experience working in Chicago and I look forward to teaching many more ‘Smart Sharks’ in the years to come.
