Art
The IPC enables the children to engage in a wide range of experiences to ensure that they have the opportunity to express their ideas, emotions, observations and experiences in images. The children will use colour to develop form, texture and patterns. Materials will be used to enable the development of creativity and imagination. They also will learn to understand, appreciate, respect and enjoy other people’s work. In addition to this the children will study the work of artists, craftspeople and designers from different cultures.
During Key Stage 1 the children aged 5 to 7 years will learn:
- Some of the forms used by artists in their work
- To use a variety of materials and processes
- To suggest ways of improving their own work.
- To make comments on works of art
- To understand that the work of artists can be seen in a wide variety of places and situations.
During Key Stage 2 the children aged 7-11 years will learn:
- About the styles and techniques of a variety of different artists.
- To use art as a means of self expression.
- To use materials and techniques which are appropriate to the task which may also express their observations and experiences.
- To talk about works of art giving reasons for their opinions.
- To consider works of art in terms of meaning, design, materials, technique, place and time.
- That the work of artists is influenced by their environment and that artists have an effect on their environment.
- To make improvements to their work.
